Here’s what happened-
It’s 2022. I was happily enjoying my life as a married homemaker. Well, mostly happy. I would have preferred to have a booming career as a working girl in New York City, but that’s a story for another day.
I was content enough. I made bread. I gardened. I drank a reasonably-sized glass of wine while I cooked dinner.
And then, something happened. As something always does. Before I knew it, I had $150 in the bank and a $300 hydro bill on my desk, I was paying for my kid’s private school, had a top-of-the-line car payment, my million-dollar home’s mortgage kept bouncing, and I was like, Woah. I can’t afford this.
I know, I know. Rich, spoiled white girl. Except that I wasn’t. But that’s also a story for another day.
The long and short of it is that my life exploded almost literally. And I needed to find a way to make an income, quick.
Left with no other option, I had a sit-down with myself and thought,
Well, what am I good at?
At that point in my life, I had been blogging for 6 years under a pen name- Leah Grey. I didn’t advertise- I just wrote. People liked what I was saying, so I kept writing. 500,000+ readers later, I considered my blog to be a mediocre success.
At the time I didn’t realize what I had done. I’d broken into the online market anonymously, grew organically without spending money on ads, tapped into a rare niche, and reached hundreds of thousands of people who weren’t there for kicks, but actually cared about what I was saying.
I built something people liked.
The pursuit of excellence is less profitable than the pursuit of bigness, but it can be more satisfying.

What does this have to do with you? Not much, really. You came to my “about me” page so I’m telling you exactly who I am- wearing my heart on my sleeve, so to speak. My lawyer told me not to do that.
But I think you should know who you’re working with.
Here’s what is about you-
You might be good at customer service, sales, management, finances, or any of the other hats a business owner wears.
I’m good with words and connecting with people- do you feel like you know me already?
Your customers want to know you as a person, not a brand. They want quality. They want your company’s policies to align with their values. They want to trust you- and when they do, they’ll be your loyal customers for life.
Remember, people don’t just “buy stuff,” they buy ideas and feelings. So long as your product or service doesn’t suck, if your business makes your customer feel good, that’s really all you need.
I live by the, “If you build it, he will come,” philosophy (1989, Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner). Meaning, your customer is already out there waiting for you.
Sound good? Let’s talk about your field.
